Marisa Hoicka is a freelance film colourist (e.g. ads, films, VR), a member of Free the Bid, and is associated with Saved Ground Picture & Post.

She teaches Davinci Resolve at Trinity Square Video, and has a background as a narrative video artist and painter.

Hoicka listens carefully to your initial ideas and as the project develops to enhance your composition, so that the viewer will fully focus on your message. Using her extensive technical expertise, she works to emphasize colour, composition and enhances your narrative to complement your project.

Through discussions with clients, Hoicka creatively problem solves, and develops a suitable look for the project, paying close attention to the aesthetic quality desired for the film.

Hoicka is also an accomplished video artist who has developed technical expertise and a substantial visual history. She is experienced in coordinating teams of people in a calm, organized atmosphere who are collaborating on both films and installations on schedule to meet deadlines.

Hoicka’s “This is Not a Test” was shown on all Air Canada flights as part of the Images Festival’s “Stitches in Time.” Rendered from textiles of varying textures, the homemade colour bars in this video literally materialize the familiar SMPTE test pattern used to adjust and calibrate NTSC video monitors. Her videos have also been shown in Berlin’s Galerie Kurt Im Hirsch, San Francisco’s MoMA, Oakville Galleries, Vidéographe, Trinity Square Video and across Canada.

Hoicka has a Master in Digital Media (Ryerson), a Studio Art BFA (Concordia), and has expertise with Davinci Resolve, Final Cut 7, Final Cut Pro X and other software. She is a member of the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto.  She is bilingual in both English and French.
